NORTHERN ZONE MINUTES

January 11, 2006

 

I.    The meeting was called to order at 7:10 PM.  Members present include Jeff  Slack, Lee Mittelstaedt, Danielle Bartow, Diane Wolf, Chrystal Hayman, Sarah  Fiacco and guests Helene Mellon, Cassidy Mattimore, and Carol Zimmerman

 II.   We amended the agenda to accommodate our guests.  Helene Mellon, Director of Staff/Instructional Development for BOCES, Cassidy Mattimore, Director of the St. Lawrence Valley Teachers’ Learning Center, and Carol Zimmerman from the Health Initiative were in attendance to discuss the program for our March 17th  Staff Development Day.  The TLC and BOCES are working together to present specific workshops in order to provide low cost, quality professional development for all areas of education.

      Lee is checking into Norwood as the site again this year. The cost should remain at $15 per person.   

     Home & Careers will join us again this year.  Workshops suggestions discussed include:

n       Commencement Portfolios       

n       Assessment with PDAs

n       Dance, Dance, Revolution       

n       Tobacco Education for Adolescents & TPACC

n       Performance Enhancement Supplements

n       Adventure-based Nutrition

n       Team Nutrition

n       Healthy Lifestyles

III. The minutes from the December 7th meeting were approved.

             

IV. Treasurer's Report – $1,946.14 – we received $496.13 from JRFH and paid out $340.00 for Lee’s summer meeting.

 

V.  OLD BUSINESS

·         Jeff brought up the formation of committees that we discussed last meetingWe need to choose the committees we feel necessary to improve our zone and our profession.  We need more people to attend the meetings and provide input to help us better our programs.

·        Northern Zone Website – we are still actively pursuing the development of a website and in the future we will attach it to the NYS AHPERD website for members to access.

 

VI.   NEW BUSINESS

 

·         Chrystal suggested that we look into remuneration for workshop presenters; Jeff will check with BOCES and the TLC to see how we should submit such a request.

 

VI.     The meeting was adjourned at 8:30 PM. Our next meeting will be in Wednesday, February 15th at 7:00 pm at the Potsdam Elks’ Lodge -- JOIN US!!!
