NYSEC is an affiliate of the
National Council of Teachers of
English
NYSEC's objectives are:
- to stimulate the self-development and professional
growth of the individual English Language Arts teachers on all levels
through membership in the statewide English Council
- to facilitate articulation among the teachers of
English Language Arts on all levels and among college faculties who are
educators of teachers of English Language Arts
- to serve as a resource body to which an individual
teacher or groups of teachers may turn to request consideration and study
of English teaching problems and needs
- to monitor and improve the status of English
Language Arts instruction and that of English Language Arts teachers both
in their individual schools and in the state as a whole, and to cooperate
with other state councils and NCTE
- to emphasize the contribution of the individual
teacher in strengthening the teaching of English Language Arts in New York
state so that the needs of all students may be met
- to consult with the State Education Department on
matters of mutual concern
- to operate as described in section 501(c)(3) of the
Internal Revenue code of 1954 as provisions amendatory thereto, and in the
event of dissolution to distribute any remaining assets according to this
purpose
